City Centre Shows

As a youth music project, we have been running for over 5 years now. In the early days our focus was to:

  1. provide opportunities for young people to engage in music events to showcase their talents

  2. grow an audience for 'new music'

  3. work with commercial venues in support of providing such opportunities

The independent venues we worked with in town, in our first 2 years included, 81 Renshaw Street, Sound Food & Drink, The Jacaranda, EBGBs. More recently, we have worked with the Kazimier Stockroom.

Such grass roots venues are the lifeblood of any local music scene. What happens there is vital to the music industry as a whole. We are very grateful for all the support we received from the various venues.

We are pleased to observe that many of the artists we showcased back then are still making music, performing live and continuing with something they love. It’s a passion however that is often fraught with all kinds of difficulties and obstacles to overcome. Many musicians pursue a career in music that requires numerous sacrifices. Choosing it over furthering academic achievements is often one such choice that has to be made. Working in low pay jobs on zero hours contracts is a further sacrifice. The life of an artist is rarely an easy one! So let’s all be mindful and show them respect and support. We could all do a lot worse than go to watch new music, support our local independent live music venues and play our part in growing an audience for ‘new music’!
